This year’s global theme is “Play your part for a better internet”. In New Zealand, the day is coordinated by NetSafe, which sets out simple ways that schools, whānau and students can take part, including joining the Compliments Campaign.

The Ministry provides several programmes and resources for schools, whānau and students. These include funding for NetSafe, internet security software and the managed Internet for schools.

It also supports cross-sector work by the Bullying Prevention Advisory Group and the Online Safety Advisory Group (OSAG). If a school is developing or updating its policy about the use of mobile phones or other digital devices, you can use OSAG’s guidelines: Digital Technology; Safe and responsible use in schools.

For tips that busy family and whānau that can use all year round, go to learning using digital technologies on the parents website.
