The Minister of Education established an Advisory Group on Early Learning in December 2014. Its focus is to ensure all children have consistent teaching and learning from birth to eight years. This is a critical time for children as they establish the foundations of language and learning.
The Advisory Group will consider ways to ensure a successful learning pathway for children from early childhood education (ECE) through into the first years of school, and to strengthen the implementation of the ECE curriculum framework, Te Whāriki. This will ensure that teaching professionals work together to ensure all children get the full benefits of New Zealand’s world-class early childhood and schooling curriculum frameworks.
Dr Joce Nuttall will chair the Advisory Group on Early Learning, with Dame Dr Iritana Tawhiwhirangi, Adelle Broadmore, Jeanette Clarkin-Phillips, Ali Glasgow, Carol Hartley, Dr Lesley Rameka, Brenda Soutar, Jan Taouma and Jan Tinetti as members. This group will bring their considerable skills, knowledge and practical experience of the early childhood and schooling sectors, together with specialist knowledge of Māori, Pasifika and special education priorities, to this work.
The group will report to the Minister by 30 June 2015. It is expected that members will invite input from stakeholders over the coming months.
