“We’ve made an initial offer to principals and teachers.
“NZEI Te Riu Roa has planned paid union meetings starting next week (June 18) to discuss the offer.
“Teachers are entitled to attend two paid union meetings a year, but it’s important to remember that the union is required to make arrangements with the school board to ensure the school remains open during any union meeting.
“Given we’re in the early stages of the bargaining process we are disappointed the union is already looking at work stoppages in August.
“However, we will continue to negotiate in good faith.”
