The School Leavers’ Toolkit, launched today by Education Minister Chris Hipkins, includes a website for students with self-directed learning about financial literacy, civics education, the key competencies workers need on the job, and information about personal wellbeing.
Minister Hipkins says the Toolkit is designed to ensure young people have the skills and knowledge they need to succeed, and to contribute to their communities and the economy.
“We need to make sure all our young people can leave school with the skills they need to get on in life and avoid common pitfalls that can easily trip them up. It shouldn’t be left to chance,” he says.
The Toolkit includes information on how to enrol for further study or training, how to manage money, and the skills and attributes expected in the workplace.
Meanwhile the School Leavers’ Toolkit on TKI continues to direct teachers towards resources aligned to the National Curriculum, to integrate subjects such as financial literacy and civics education further into their classes from year 7 onwards.

Studyit refreshed
The Studyit website for secondary students also has a fresh new look and navigation – in time to support students as they head into NCEA exams for this year.
Students can continue to have their study questions answered by an on-line teacher about NCEA English, science and maths.
Studyit has been available since 2004, but now has a simpler, more accessible look - making it easier for students to find what they’re looking for.
It is also now more responsive to being viewed on mobile devices. Students can download information to all of their devices, so they can view standards offline and save data.
The new URL is https://studyit.govt.nz
Anyone visiting the old URL will be automatically redirected.
